woodcuts, Nantucket images
This is the only abstract woodcut I've ever done. It's done on an oak chair seat I took apart, so it's already carved into a shape, and was hard to print because the wood is not flat. I was originally thinking about what my brain goes through at a Quaker meeting. A lot of confusion until, hopefully, a core thought. As I printed it in two colors, I saw that the shapes wouldn't line up, which was a disappointment at first until I pulled the print and noticed that it looked like a very basic boat, and because it's printed in Prussian blue and red on white paper, I now call it "American Boat". I love the happy accidents of printmaking!
