To me, the Small Faces invented everything we know about flashy British Rock 'n' Roll. The Who, Zepplin, etc., they get the props, but The Small Faces bulldozed the way with excellent threads, speed driven R&B, solid pop songwriting, and eventually psychedelic and roots rock majesty. Any poser who ever wore a blazer, a scarf, too-tight pants and flash shoes owes to The Small Faces. Ronnie Lane was the rootsy soul of the band, Steve Marriott was "The Face", a great songwriter, and the inventor of every rock guitar move that Elvis didn't already copyright, but Ronnie had the scruffy, dusty soul- just listen to "Oh La, La" ,and "Lost in the Debris"
