Hearing Uncle Dave made me want to play banjo. Born in 1860 and playing music until 1952 as star of the Opry, he was an amazing link between old-time vaudeville/minstrel music and modern country. He was the template for a whole genre of he-haw styled down home humor (don't hold that against him- he did it well), and DIY, audience entertaining showmanship that survives to this day in Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Roy, anyone that can hold a crowd, get 'em on their feet, and keep 'em clappin'
