This is a portrait of Robert Fraser, a painter from Nantucket who paints mostly plein air images of the island. I tried to capture both the beauty of the island, and the intensity of Robert as focuses on his work. Plein air painting is a fun way to work, but has its challenges. You are blasted by the elements, bugs and sand get in your work, people walk by and ask lots of questions. No matter how much you plan ahead, you always forget to bring something, and have to wing it. Your back hurts, your feet hurt after a while, but you always just have to finish it. Robert is a master of this style of painting, so I tried to capture a little of that.
