woodcuts, Nantucket images
The Artist Association of Nantucket reinstated a Plein Air festival in 2012. I wanted to see if I could rise to the challenge and complete a woodcut in 24 hrs after drawing the image on the board in Plein Air. I ended up doing two woodcuts. The first was a harbor scene that did not come out to my satisfaction, so I quickly did this little scene of an anchor that had been hauled up out of the ocean and displayed by the Maria Mitchell Aquarium. I drew the image and cut the wood in about 6 hours.
