woodcuts, Nantucket images
When I first went to Nantucket to teach in the summers, I tried to find images that would inspire me. It was tough for the first few years. There are so many amazing and instant "perfect pictures", but I wanted something that would speak to me, and that not a lot of other people have done. That's hard. There's many wonderful artists on island that have painted every last stretch of beach, woods, moors, harbors, streets, etc. It took many photo expeditions and aimless walks to find what would work for me. This woodcut of the the North Church was, I think, the first print I did, specifically, of Nantucket.
